Miniature system integration

Potomac MesoSystems is in the system integration business...but we do it on a miniature scale.  We bring more than two decades of miniaturization experience to our projects, and can assist our clients in design, prototyping, and manufacturing of customized systems.  Our miniature systems are especially useful in areas such as wireless sensing, robotics, body area networks, and UAV's where the demands of  size, weight, geometry and power consumption are challenging.

Miniature electronic modules

We have developed techniques for constructing miniature monolithic blocks of tightly-packed leadless components connected by fine-feature nanosilver conductors.  Analogous to "Systems on a Chip", these "Systems in a Module"  can contain sensors, signal processors, passives and other small packaged components.  Fabrication details have been published in IEEE Trans. on Components, Packaging, and Manufacturing Technology.  A full text download is available from the Downloads page.

Miniature sensors

With support from the National Science Foundation, we have applied our miniature module technology to fabrication of wireless and wired sensors.  In these sensors almost every cubic millimeter is occupied by functional components.

Miniature smart structures

Combining miniature electronics with small 3D printed structures provides a route to fabrication of complex structures with densely embedded intelligence.  These structures find applications in areas as diverse as microfluidics, medical devices, and jewelry.
